The doubled edged Yen

Is Japan as expensive as people say? Yes and no. Here’s an example – the below apples are bigger than a grapefruit, perfect in every way, and smell delicious. But they’re ¥498 – £3.45. An expensive way to keep the doctor away, whichever way you look at it.

However, for the same price you can get ten fat juicy scallops so fresh they’re meant to be eaten as sashimi (hence the inclusion of wasabi in the pack). I intend to pan-fry them, and eat them for dinner with a side dish of steamed brocolli sprouts and shitake mushrooms.
