Kyushoku – Tuesday 9th March

As we near the end of term, watch out for more regular kyushoku posts!

Clockwise from the gyunyu:
  • raisu – since todays meal is Western-based, the term raisu is used instead of the Japanese gohan
  • hayashi
These two combine to form a dish called hayashi raisu, which is based on hashed beef. It is beef, mushrooms, onions and carrots in a sweet tomato-y demi-glace sauce
  • retasu to harusame no ae mono – salad of lettuce and harusame – bean starch noodles – with a sesame dressing
  • amanatsu – what the dictionary calls a “sweet variety of Watson pomelo” and what turned out to be a very sour citrus fruit with little discernible flavour
Rating: 4.5/5
